Academies are suitable for S5-S6 pupils who are enthusiastic about improving their opportunities in life and are committed to a 1-2 year programme. Pupils will study both at college and university while still at school and gain relevant work experience opportunities.
A Joint project with Edinburgh College, Queen Margaret University (QMU) and Local Authorities, SESAP Academies provide a smooth transition between school, college, university and employment. Pupils attend college, school and university simultaneously and benefit from enhanced employability through an industry relevant work experience placement.
Successful completion of the Academies provides pupils with direct access to QMU or Edinburgh College and gives a competitive advantage for progression to employment.
The Health & Social Care Academy provides an opportunity to achieve a relevant qualification in Health & Social Care. It will allow pupils to develop skills ready for entry to college, university or employment. For further information e-mail

The Creative Industries Academy provides an opportunity to discover the range of skills required to work in the dynamic creative industries sector, in particular, media and film or acting and performance. The Hospitality & Tourism Academy provides an opportunity to discover the range of skills required to work in the dynamic hospitality, tourism & events sectors and is suitable for pupils interested in working with people and studying business management or hospitality at school. Academy students attend college weekly Tuesdays and Thursdays 2-5pm and QMU for 4 Friday sessions from 2-5 pm in August, October, March & June. Travel will be arranged by the Local Authority through the school.
Edinburgh College Engineering Academy
HNC in Engineering Systems with Renewables – SCQF Level 7
A joint project with Edinburgh College and Edinburgh Napier University, the Engineering Academy provides an opportunity to build knowledge and practical skill alongside academic study. Applicants should be working towards a minimum of 3 Highers (one of which will be science based and the remainder will include Maths and English). Highers must be achieved by 6th year. This along with two years of College to complete an HNC will provide direct access to year two of the BEng Energy and Environmental Engineering course at Napier University.

East Lothian Construction Academy
Construction Crafts Skills for work – SCQF Level 4
The Construction Skills Academy is a new partnership between East Lothian Council, Edinburgh College and Morrison Construction. The Academy is based in the East Lothian Construction & Technology Centre in Musselburgh and is open to pupils from East Lothian. This is a vocational course offering employability skills required for success in the workplace and offers a variety of practical experience linked to construction. There are no formal entry requirements but a referral from school is required.
