Construction Centre for
Excellence
Our
Construction Centre for Excellence at the Forthside building on West Shore Road
has training facilities for up to 700 apprentices and 200 adult
learners.
We offer
a wide range of modern and traditional construction courses – from glazing,
carpentry and stone masonry to conservation and heritage construction skills.
With support from Historic Scotland, the Centre will be continuously updated and
improved until it’s complete in 2015.
All these
facilities are supported by fully qualified staff and strong links with the
community, industry and higher education institutions.
Mixed Reality And Motion Tracking Technology
Edinburgh College joined forces with Heriot-Watt University to develop mixed reality and motion tracking technology for the construction industry which will allow our students to be suspeneded 100 metres in the air without even leaving the classroom.
The first stage of the project immerses students, who wear a virtual reality headset, in challenging working conditions including operating at heights. The second stage will allow students to manually interact with objects in both the real and virtual world at the same time.
