Course Overview
This course is designed for people who are considering IT as a career or career change, with a specialisation in cyber-security. 

This exploratory course provides you with an introduction to cybersecurity. The curriculum will explore ways to be safe online, learn the different types of malware and attacks, measures used by organizations to mitigate the attacks, and research their career opportunities. The course is certified by CISCO which is a globally, industry recognised leader of IT certifications as well as SQA. At Edinburgh college we complement the course with knowledge of Computer Networks, Computer Programming and Command line syntax. This combination gives you all the fundamental computing skills you need to enter the industry or move in to further education and specialisation.

Cyber is one of the fastest growth areas and is promoted by the Scottish Government as a need for new employees. The current predicted trend is that there will be over 6 million vacancies globally for jobs related to Cyber. Edinburgh and the Lothian's in particular have a high percentage of need due to the Banking and Finance sector and Digital businesses being prevalent here.

The course is ideal for those changing vocation and haven't studied a computing course previously or for some time.

Please note due to COVID the course is delivered online with live interactive video classrooms. You will have contact with your lecturers via video classrooms for approx. 16 hours per week

Entry Requirements
You need to be comfortable using a computer for office type tasks such as writing a document, creating a PowerPoint presentation or basic data entry on excel spreadsheets. Be comfortable doing Internet searches effectively and finding your way around the computer desktop and programs.

if you have recent qualifications these will be taken in to account, they need to be at SQCF level 5 or above and preferably in a computing related subject.

  • IELTS 5.5
How the course is assessed
  • There are short online tests for some modules but predominantly the course is assessed through practical course work

You may be invited to attend an online screening activity to help us assess your eligibility for the course. This will only be the case if your qualifications and or job role experience is not sufficient for us to make an assessment.
