This full-time multi-skilled programme from IMI Awarding is designed to give learners a taste of the body repair sector, the paint repair sector, and the mechanical maintenance and repair sector. It supports the development of essential skills and knowledge to prepare you for further study in either of the three specialist subject areas.
The 36-week academic year is split into three parts; each 12-week interval will deliver knowledge and workshop skills relating to the specific trade. Assessment and achievement will be conducted throughout all the subject areas. You will study a variety of subjects including vehicle damage assessment, panel removal, and refitting, applying fillers, MAG welding, body surface preparation, applying primers, application of a topcoat, light vehicle braking system operations, air & liquid cooling system operation and lighting system maintenance.
The course is taught at the Edinburgh College Sighthill campus in our body, paint and mechanical workshops. You will carry out repair and maintenance tasks on a range of vehicles to best simulate a real working environment. The workshops have all the necessary resources for you to learn some of the key skills required in the motor industry. This will enable you to make an informed choice for progression and further study into one of the three trade-specific areas.
The assessment is made up of two components which are set by the awarding body:
