Hospitality is a thriving and growing industry with job
opportunities continuing to increase. The Hospitality HND
Management course offers a diverse level of
teaching and subjects. Hospitality as a discipline is often underestimated
by people who have never tried to serve others and don’t know the
pleasure and satisfaction it brings. This course
will ensure you are on your way to a fulfilling career within this
dynamic, fast-changing and expanding industry. Edinburgh College has
exceptional facilities and you will gain essential experience in our
restaurants and kitchens.
In year one there is a mandatory 80 hours of work experience
that can be carried out throughout the year giving you excellent on-the-job
training to prepare you for your future career. You will participate in a programme of
visits to hotels and other businesses operating within the hospitality and
events industry. There will be opportunities to take part in
competitions and you are encouraged to take advantage of the many volunteering
opportunities available to you as an HND Hospitality student. Year
two will cover a range of management topics as well as specialist units in
alcohol and accounting. The course will ensure you are well prepared to
progress onto further training opportunities at degree level or into
employment.

In year one there is a mandatory 80 hours of work placement
which can be carried out throughout the year. Although there is no
mandatory work placement for year two, applicants are recommended to
seek employment within the hospitality industry to support their studies.
Year one:
- Minimum of one Higher grade C pass (or above) from
the following; English, Modern Studies, History, Religious Studies, Social
Science, Psychology or Business Management (if you have one Higher in
a subject not listed, we welcome your application)
- And three National 5`s or three Standard
Grades at Grade 3 or above (two of which should be Mathematics and
English)
- Or satisfactory completion of appropriate SCQF 5 or 6 SQA
course/units
- If you do not meet these criteria but have relevant
work experience, we welcome your application
Year two:
- You must hold an HND Year 1 in
Hospitality with 15 credits

How the course is assessed

- You will be assessed through practical and graded
written assignments.
- Applicants will be
invited to Edinburgh College to attend an information session
- Group tasks will be set and carried out during this time
- There are opportunities for applicants to speak to the
lecturing team during the information session on a one to one basis
