THIS COURSE IS FOR SENIOR PHASE PUPILS WHO ARE STILL AT SCHOOL
This course will help to prepare pupils for employment in the field of sport and fitness, focusing on and developing a range of functional skills within coaching and team sports. There are two options to choose from: basketball or football. Studying this course should allow learners to make informed choices regarding possible career paths and may be used as a progression onto a full-time college course in Sport and Fitness.
- Assess
and address the requirements of participants when planning sports coaching
sessions.
- Consider
legal obligations in terms of health and safety, data protection and
participant care.
- Develop,
deliver and evaluate a progressive sequence of coaching sessions.
- A
strong interest in team sports
- An
SCQF level 4 pass in English or language-based subject such as
Communications
- Along
with three SCQF level 4 passes (or equivalent), two of which must be in
relevant subjects such as PE, Biology/Human Anatomy.
- IELTS 5.5 for non-native English speakers

How the course is assessed

This course is assessed through practical observation and completion of detailed logbooks and coaching plans.
Applicants will be required to attend course induction sessions and participate in a selection process. You will be notified in advance of the details.
Progression And Articulation Routes

On successful completion and
achievement on this course it may be possible to progress onto the Access to
Coaching and Developing sport course.
Although this course does not lead you directly into employment it can help you make an informed decision on pursuing coaching, as a career, through further study.
