Jewel & Esk College is a further and higher education college, situated over 2 campuses in Edinburgh and Midlothian.
Jewel & Esk had a rich and varied history, before evolving into the modern, well equipped & designed college it is today.
The college has a duty to ensure, where appropriate, that staff employed by the college and students on courses or on placement are disclosed for any applicable criminal convictions that may influence the execution of their duties.
Staff
The college decided that all staff, including the Board of Governors, should be enhanced disclosed, regardless of their role within the college.
Here is a summary of our staff policy:
1: All new appointments are made subject to acceptable enhanced disclosure.
2: Exceptionally, and to enhance the relevance of vocational skills, Faculties may use the services of a Visiting Lecturer for up to 28 days. Visiting Lecturers will make declaration before starting and the disclosure process will be started within 2 days of involvement. These lecturers, once disclosed, will become temporary lecturers and will be treated as a new member of staff.
3: All staff are enhanced disclosed every three years.
4: All existing academic, management and support staff, together with the Board of Governors, are enhanced disclosed.
5: Foreign nationals will be submitted for disclosure on the same basis as UK Nationals, although it is recognised that the information on which the check will be carried out may be restricted.
6: All staff have a duty to inform us of any pending or actual change in their status.
Any queries should be directed to Human Resources.
