Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF)

The SCQF is a way of comparing the wide range of Scottish qualifications. It covers achievements such as those from school, college, university, and many work-based qualifications. It does this by giving each qualification a level and a number of credit points. The level of a qualification shows how difficult the learning is. The credit points show how much learning is involved in achieving that qualification.

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework promotes lifelong learning in Scotland. It supports everyone in Scotland, including learning providers and employers by:

  • helping people of all ages and circumstances to get access to appropriate education and training so they can meet their full potential;
  • helping employers, learners and the general public to understand the full range of Scottish qualifications, how qualifications relate to each other and to other forms of learning, and how different types of qualification can contribute to improving the skills of the workforce.

There are many different kinds of Scottish qualifications: Highers, SVQs, HNDs, Degrees and many more. Each course at Jewel & Esk College has an SCQF Level. You will find this listed with the course entry on this website or in the course guide.

You can use the table to compare courses and qualification levels.
