Jewel & Esk College rocks Parliament with new Scottish talent

The Music Business section at Edinburgh's .. Jewel & Esk College, have been involved in selecting five young, Scottish bands to perform at the Scottish Parliament on Friday 1 July.

The bands will appear at an afternoon concert which will showcase musical talent from across Scotland and from different genres of music. Crayons from Fife; French Wives and The Imagineers from Glasgow; Maydays from Caithness and White Heath from Edinburgh will take their place on the stage alongside performances from youth choirs, orchestras, pipers, drummers and traditional Scottish musicians in what promises to be a fantastic afternoon of quality musical entertainment.

Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick MSP said of the event, “Scotland has a long history of nurturing new musical acts and the Opening of the Fourth Session of the Scottish Parliament is all about recognising Scottish talent and success. It’s wonderful to be welcoming such musically diverse bands from across the country.”

Explaining the College involvement, Jon Buglass, Head of Creative Industries at Jewel & Esk College said, “We are delighted to be involved with this high profile event. Being asked to co-programme this prestigious showcase of young Scottish musical talent is a sign of the esteem in which our Music Business and Sound Production programmes are held. It’s also a particularly significant day for the college as July 1st marks the launch of the new Jewel & Esk Music Business blog, Far East. The blog, which will be run by students and will incorporate news about FEAST our new record label, will come to form a valuable part of the Jewel & Esk learning experience.”
