Cutting It: Haddington student wins through to National finals

17 year old Hannah Milne from Haddington has a very important date in Blackpool on March 14th.

Hannah who is an SVQ2 hairdressing student at Jewel & Esk College has won through local competition to make it to the UK finals for cut and blow dry skills at her level. The finals which are part of the UK Festival of Hair and Beauty being held at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens attract competitors and industry experts from across the UK and beyond. Over 600 contestants and their models are expected to take part in over 23 competitive classes.

Hannah is relishing the challenge, “I just couldn’t believe it when I got through my heat. The competition was so tough and everyone’s work was so good. I am nervous about Blackpool. But I’m excited too and really looking forward to it. A number of us from Jewel & Esk are going down to Blackpool so I’ll have lots of support. And my sister Becky is my model so it will be great to have her there with me too.”

Jewel & Esk lecturer Jackie Steele is thrilled with Hannah’s achievement, “It’s great that Hannah has qualified to take part in the National finals. It’s going to be a fantastic experience for her. The event in Blackpool is about more than just the competition, it’s also an opportunity for Hannah and the other girls attending from Jewel & Esk to see exactly where trends are heading, what new equipment is on the market and to witness demos from some of the UK’s top stylists.”
