Engineering & Clean Technology

engineers

The Centre for Engineering & Clean Technology has been training engineers ever since the days of Leith Nautical College.  Since the 1970s we have built a strong reputation in the field of measurement and control engineering for the oil and gas industry, and are now moving forward with exciting new developments in clean energy.  Our students have the opportunity to be at the forefront of these developments.

Jewel & Esk College provides high quality engineering training to deliver three objectives:

  • To serve the ambitions of our students
  • To meet the skills demands of our industry and community partners
  • To assist the engineering sector to deliver on its economic, environmental and social commitments nationally and internationally.

The Centre for Engineering & Clean Technology offers courses in the following specialisms:

Measurement & Control Engineering

We are one of 3 UK providers used by OPITO, the training body for the oil and gas industry to train up apprentices in Measurement & Control Engineering.  Apprentices hone their skills using dedicated control and instrumentation workshops and a state of the art control room simulator.  We have built a strong reputation in the industry, with many of our students winning awards.  A Jewel & Esk student has won OPITO’s prized Apprentice of the Year title in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Automotive Engineering

Students learn in our realistic light vehicle workshop at the college, using modern diagnostic facilities.  In the last year, we have also established a cutting edge electric vehicle research centre.  Working with Mitsubishi and Siemens, staff and students monitor our fleet of electric vehicles, gathering data on performance and cost effectiveness.  We also manufacture charge points for electric vehicles.

Mechanical Engineering

We deliver courses for apprentices and full time courses for those who wish to move into employment or move on to university on co mpleting their course.  We also deliver the HNC Engineering with Power Generation, training engineers who will be well placed to work in power generation for the 21st Century, including the renewables and nuclear industries.
