e-Car Project

e-Car Project

header

The e-Car project is an innovative transport initiative aimed at investigating the practicalities of using electric vehicles to reduce carbon travel costs.

Jewel & Esk College as lead partners currently have five zero emission e-Cars within the project based at our campuses and partner sites that can be used by staff to alleviate the need to use their own vehicles for travel. The e-Car can be used for travel between sites, to collect visitors, work visits and more…

The e-Car Project includes:

  • the e-Car charging point project, a cost effective and durable post, designed and manufactured in-house, installed at strategically positioned locations to support the e-Car user. This is being developed into a marketable product.

  • the e-Car booking system developed and designed by Jewel & Esk staff, which is used by partners and associates across Edinburgh and the Lothians

  • the e-Car research from the vehicle and the user to evaluate car performance, the influence of external factors and the user experience

Students and staff at Jewel & Esk College are involved in the e-Car project and associated activities with anticipated wide reaching benefits:

“Launching our electric vehicle project this year has been excellent experience for our Automotive and Mechanical Engineering students, keeping their skills up to date with the latest industry developments.”

Ross Milligan, Automotive & Mechanical Engineering Team Leader
