Discover - Online Learning

Virtual Learning

You can access your courses online at http://mycourses.jec.ac.uk – both in the college and at home.

Your courses are part of Discover, the student online portal. It is an environment where you can work online, receive help from tutors, upload assignments and receive feedback. It’s a bit like a virtual classroom – you can even talk to and interact with other students on your course.

On the home page of Discover (available on the intranet in college) you can find out the latest college news along with other information such as how to get the most out of Discover, information about Learning Resources and news from Student Services and the Students’ Association.

Student email
You will have your own student email account while at college. This will give you a dedicated email address for all your college learning and social activities. Having a student email account can also act as proof that you are at an academic institution and therefore entitled to pay the substantially discounted academic prices that are available for many software packages.

You can access your student email at http://outlook.com/owa or from the ‘my mail’ button on the Discover home page.Your student email address will be your studentnumber@live.jec.ac.uk and your default password will be a your date of birth (7 or 8 digit number) in the format (d)dmmyyyy. If this password starts with a zero, please remove it.

“Discover makes learning more accessible for staff and students as it brings the classroom onto the web.  You’ll find lots of different tools to help you, including interactive learning materials, online discussion forums, easy links to web resources and access to teaching materials.  As Discover is web based you will also improve your IT skills.

Students love having 24/7 access to course materials, the interactive nature of learning materials on Discover and the ability to  communicate quickly and easily with classmates and lecturers.”
