Support for learning

Learning and Study Skills

Coming to college can be a challenging experience. If you have just left school you will be working and studying in an area you have chosen and will be expected to work more independently. Perhaps you have been in employment or bringing up a family and are returning to education but may have concerns about your study skills. Whatever your background, we are here to help you make a success of your studies. We offer support for individuals or small groups in such areas as:

• taking or making notes;
• writing essays or reports;
• planning your work;
• organising time; and
• revision

We also give help in particular skills:

• Numeracy
• Spelling, Punctuation, Reading

Tutors in the Learning Support Team are also experienced in supporting students with:

  • Physical disabilities
  • Visual  impairment
  • Learning difficulties
  • Mental health or medical problems
  • Hearing impairment
  • Specific learning difficulties eg Dyslexia, Dyspraxia

If you have particular challenges and need further support, this support is detailed under Students with Additional Support Needs.
